A village’s greatest wisdom lives in the people who know it, care for it, and help its young people find their way in the world. On Friday, November 13, from 4:30 to 7:00 PM PT, the Black Teacher Project and Rise East Oakland invite Black educators, families, students, elders, and community leaders to The Village Is Already Here: A Coming Together for Education in East Oakland’s 40×40, a free gathering at the Black Cultural Zone’s Sankofa Sanctuary in East Oakland.
Together, we’ll celebrate the knowledge, histories, and relationships rooted in the 40×40, share hopes and ideas for supporting Black teachers and young people, and imagine what more can grow from what’s already here. Come for conversation, music, activities, a light dinner, and good company. Register to join us.
On Tuesday, December 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT, the Black Teacher Project will host Hiring & Sustaining Black Teachers, a three-hour interactive virtual workshop for school and district leaders ready to strengthen what they can do to recruit, hire, and sustain Black educators.
Through facilitated learning, reflection, breakout conversations, and peer consultation, participants will examine their current practices and deepen their understanding of the historical and present-day context shaping Black teachers’ experiences.
You’ll also bring questions and challenges from your own context into conversation with other education leaders, gaining feedback and new perspectives you can carry back to your school or district. Registration is $250. Secure your spot and join us.
